The war in Iran is dangerous and illegal — a desperate attempt to distract the nation from the damage Donald Trump is doing here at home.  While costs rise and Donald Trump’s popularity plummets, the President has launched this war of choice, with no clear goal and no exit strategy. All the while putting the lives of thousands of US military personnel at risk.

This has to stop.

The Constitution gives Congress the power to decide matters of war and peace for a reason. No president — Democrat or Republican — should be allowed to bypass the American people and launch a war on their own. Congress cannot sit on the sidelines while a president takes this country into war without congressional authorization or public debate. 

I will fight to reassert Congressional authority established in Article I, Section 8, and stop Donald Trump’s illegal war.

In the Middle East, I will support diplomacy, regional de-escalation, and a serious strategy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon without plunging America into another endless conflict.
