Wildfire is real here in the North State. It’s personal. And, wildfire is becoming a year-round reality and too many rural communities are on the front lines without the resources they need to keep their families and their property safe. I’ve seen the impacts of mega-fires first hand.That’s why, here in California, I’ve made wildfire prevention and response a top priority. I’ve lead the charge doubling the number of CalFire firefighters, deploying more state fire engines on the road and more planes in the sky. We’ve invested billions to make our communities more wildfire safe through more prescribed burns, dead and dying tree removal, more community fire breaks, vegetation management, and hardening homes and communities.I’ve been proud to partner with local fire departments and fire districts, securing desperately needed funding for more local fire engines and emergency equipment.But we have to do more, and we have to do it smarter.In Congress, I’ll fight to:<ul><li>Reverse Donald Trump’s devastating cuts to the US Forest Service and restore the cuts to the 57 research centers that Trump is shuttering. </li><li>Fight to double the budget for firefighting and forest management at the US Forest Service, investing in more firefighters, enhanced forest management, and wildfire prevention programs at the scale this crisis demands. </li><li>Greatly scale up the number of prescribed burns and Indigenous land stewardship practices that reduce risk and restore forest health. </li><li>Invest in local fire districts so rural communities have the equipment, staffing, and training they need to thrive.</li><li>Harden homes and communities against wildfire through defensible space and resilience upgrades. </li><li>Reverse the horrific cuts to FEMA and improve emergency response and disaster recovery so communities, so they can rebuild quickly and safely. </li></ul>Wildfire safety isn’t just about fighting fires; it’s about preventing them in the first place and building communities that can withstand what’s coming. Northern California deserves leadership that understands this crisis firsthand and is willing to act with urgency.

I’ve seen the impacts of mega-fires first hand, and too many rural communities are on the front lines without the resources they need to keep their families and their property safe. I've led the fight to double the number of CalFire firefighters in our communities and to bring billions in resources to protecting the North State.

Strengthening Fire Protection

Rural communities deserve more than empty promises. They deserve investment.In California, I’ve secured funding for new career training centers and fire academies in Mendocino, Del Norte, Sonoma, and Humboldt Counties. We’re building the largest healthcare education job hub in Northern California, focused on graduating the next generation of healthcare providers, lab technicians, and medical assistants. This hub will ensure a healthcare workforce is highly trained, positively impacting one of the most rural regions of our state. We also helped lead the successful fight to expand career training programs in California High Schools,I’ll fight for good-paying union jobs, stronger infrastructure, expanded broadband, clean energy development, wildfire resilience, and economic development that helps small towns and rural counties thrive. Northern California should not be treated as an afterthought in Washington.

Rural communities deserve real investment. I’ve secured funding for job training centers and healthcare workforce expansion across Northern California. In Congress, I’ll fight for higher-paying jobs, better roads, expanded broadband, and economic development that helps our communities thrive.

Creating Good Jobs and Investing in Rural Communities

Too many people who work in our communities can no longer afford to live in them.At the State level, I’ve been a leading voice to build more workforce housing and make it easier to achieve the American dream. I’ve worked to expedite the process to build new housing, securing millions to build thousands of additional housing units in our counties, and especially rural communities.I’ll fight for major federal investments in affordable housing, first-time homebuyer support, renter tax credits and protections, and housing production that meets the needs of working families, seniors, and young people. Housing is fundamental to economic security — and we need bold action to address the crisis.

Housing costs are pushing working families out of their communities. I’ve worked to build more housing and cut red tape in California. In Congress, I’ll fight for investments in affordable housing, renter protections, and support for first-time homebuyers so everyone can live and work in their own community.

Tackling the Cost of Housing

Families across Northern California are paying more for groceries, rent, utilities, gas, insurance, and childcare — while wages struggle to keep up.Leaders in Washington need to increase the federal minimum wage - just like we have here in the Golden State. The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 for 20 years. Twenty states still use the federal minimum wage as their base wage. This is appalling and hurts women and families the most, as two-thirds of minimum wage workers across the United States are women.Here in California, we’re laser-focused on making life more affordable. We are saving $60 billion in electric bill rates with our California rebates, securing funding for the first-time homebuyers program benefitting thousands across the state, securing tax credits/rebates for renters, and expanding subsidized childcare slots by tens of thousands in every corner of the state.&nbsp; Right now, over half of all students who attend a California community college, CSU, and UC can attend tuition-free, and we’re building thousands of new workforce housing units.Congress needs to flex its constitutional authority and repeal Donald Trump’s reckless tariff taxes, which are making life more expensive for all of us. On average, due to Trump’s economic policies, the cost of living is up $2,400 per year for the average American.I’ll fight for an economy that actually works for working people: lowering everyday costs, taking on corporate price gouging, expanding affordable housing, bringing down utility bills, and making childcare and elder care more affordable.People are working hard. They deserve a fair shot at a stable life.

Families are getting squeezed while costs keep rising. I’ve delivered real relief in California—lowering utility bills, expanding childcare, and making college more affordable. In Congress, I’ll raise wages, take on corporate price gouging, and fight to bring down the cost of living.

Lowering Costs for Working Families

Climate change is here, and Northern California is living with the consequences: wildfire, smoke, drought, flooding, and rising costs.I’ll fight for aggressive climate action, investments in clean energy, forest health, fire prevention, and disaster recovery that actually meet the scale of the crisis. We need to protect our communities, lower emissions, and create good jobs while doing so.I’ve led the successful fight for the strongest clean air, clean water, and climate laws in America. We’ve taken on Big Oil, who keep trying to destroy our coastline with offshore oil drilling, and we’ve won by standing up for our most vulnerable communities. That’s why our grassroots campaign has been endorsed by the Sierra Club, National Resources Defense Council, California Environmental Voters, Climate Hawks Vote, Sonoma County Conservation Action and League of Conservation Voters.

Climate change is already impacting Northern California—from wildfires to drought. I’ve led the fight for stronger environmental laws and climate action, and taken on Big Oil. In Congress, I’ll push for bold climate action, invest in wildfire prevention, and protect our communities.

Fighting for Climate Action and Wildfire Safety

Healthcare can’t just be for the wealthy few. In Congress, I'll fight to pass Medicare for All for the entire countryThat means guaranteed healthcare for every person in America — full stop. No more insurance company greed, no more denying care for profit, no more tying your healthcare to your job, and no more bankrupting families over medical bills. We can and must build a system that puts patients before profits.Here in California, I’ve stood up to Donald Trump when he cut healthcare for working families and fought back: reopening shuttered hospitals and expanding rural birthing centers so expecting moms can have their baby in the town they call home. I’ve kept health centers open, helped expand health insurance to 92% all Californians, and successfully fought to add thousands of additional mental health and addiction beds across the state.When it comes to developing the rural healthcare workforce, I've gone to the mat - securing funds for expanded nursing programs in rural communities and building new healthcare technician academies at local community colleges. That's not all: we’re about to break ground on Northern California’s largest healthcare education job hub focused on graduating the next generation of healthcare and lab technicians and medical assistants.

The Citizens United decision has corrupted American politics. Democrats in Congress need to do everything in their power to strike down this decision and return our country to a democracy for and by actual people.In the State Senate, with Assemblymember Rogers, we advanced AB 1984, which would have stopped corporations in California from spending money in politics.In Congress, I’ll fight to overturn Citizens United and impose term limits on the US Supreme Court.

Our democracy shouldn’t be for sale. The Citizens United decision gave corporations too much power in our elections. I’ve fought to limit corporate influence in California, and sponsored legislation thats strikes at the heart of Citizens United disastrous effects on our democracy. In Congress, I’ll do the same to restore power to the people.

Overturning Citizens United

Donald Trump has made one thing crystal clear: he is willing to shred the Constitution and weaponize our government to terrorize the American people.I won’t back down from that fight. I never have and I never will. When Trump unleashed ICE in California, I led the way in the State Senate to force ICE agents to take off their masks, allow Californians to take ICE agents to court, and ban ICE agents from schools, churches, and hospitals.&nbsp;In Congress, I’ll hold Trump accountable for abuses of power, corruption, and attacks on our democracy. We need to abolish ICE and hold Agents accountable when they terrorize families and trample civil rights.We need leaders who will say plainly that no one is above the law and anyone who violates this sacred oath will be held to account. I’ll fight to enact laws that mandate the use of body-worn cameras for federal agents, ensure ICE agents are liable in court for violating the constitutional rights of residents, enact a use-of-force policy with teeth throughout the federal law enforcement branches, and&nbsp;ensure judicial warrants are used when conducting search and seizure of homes and businesses. No exceptions.Our district doesn’t need another politician willing to look the other way. We need someone who will fight back.
